Foxhunting Attire
Attire is determined by the season. There are two seasons,
cub hunting and formal. The cubbing season is dedicated
to conditioning horses and hounds for chasing the quarry for
longer periods of time. The formal season begins after the
blessing (opening meet).
The cubbing season allows for less formal attire called "ratcatcher".
Ratcatcher normally refers to a dark sport coat or hacking
jacket and a shirt and tie or turtle neck shirt. In warmer
climates coats are not required.
The formal season calls for black leather boots, neutral color
breeches, black or navy hunting coat, shirt with a tie or stock
tie and a protective hat. The stock tie, fastened with a plain
gold safety pin, can serve as a bandage for man, hound or horse
in case of an accident.
Cornwall Hounds
and Fox River Valley Hunt is dedicated to the excitement
of the sport, not the dress code. Our members can
wear ratcatcher anytime and most members only wear
formal on weekends after the Blessing. In other words,
formal attire is not mandatory after the Blessing. Members
can wear ratcatcher on Saturday's if they prefer.
