Dear Friend:
My mom died very quietly and peacefully at her home in Galena, Illinois earlier this afternoon just as she wanted to die surrounded by family, friends, Pastor, and her two Golden Retrievers Sam and Princess ( who were roaming, sniffing and frolicing amidst her oxygen machines, gastric suction pumps, and bed pans). One of the last people to say good bye happened to be the farrier who had shoed her fox hunters over the last 20 years.
While we are all very sad, no one could have asked for a better life. Out of her 90 years and 4 months on this earth, only the last 3 months were not of great quality life. We should all be so lucky!
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday February 24, 2007 at:

My mother was confirmed by the Archbishop of Canterbury in the Church of England, and raised us in the Methodist church, so the service will be at a Presbyterian church because she liked the Pastor and the English countryside like setting. Mapquest directions follow. Like much of my mother's life, getting to this church will be an adventure because it is nowhere near Elizabeth! Schapville, however, is on most maps.
There will be a potluck lunch served at the church after the service. Church members will provide plenty of food, but feel free to bring a dish if you feel so inclined. At lunch, we will be sharing Megan Sr. stories/memories so think of a good one or make it up.
The internment of her ashes at the gravesite with my father in Galena will occur later and will be with family members only.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to the Main Stay Therapeutic Riding Program, Inc., 6919 Keystone Road, Richmond, Illinois 60071. It provides equestrian activities as therapy for people with physical, developmental, emotional and social disabilites.
